The brief was simple: make a liquid-driven mood video. The twist was matching a refreshing yerba mate drink with the rough, restless rhythm of skateboarding.
El Tony Mate became more than a prop; it became the visual rhyme for everything skate culture is: bold, immediate, a little bit defiant.
The whole concept hinges on that contrast: cold drink, hot pavement.

Planning and Setup
Never have I ordered a bigger pack of El Tony Mate than for this incredible project. And not one drop got wasted!
Through an open call for a skateboarder around Basel, Zeny reached out. Briefing him on the shooting script, location scouting, and visual direction, we set out to the Indoor Skatepark in Basel. The shoot focused on capturing motion the way skating actually feels: close to the ground, fast, and physical. Tracking shots, ground-level angles, and quick reframes were planned to give the edit room to breathe and snap. The footage was treated with a punchy, slightly sun-bleached colour grade to push the lifestyle-brand energy without losing the gritty realism of the street.

Motion Meets Mate
In post, the project leaned into solid video cuts and motion design as its own performance. Through kinetic typography and cutting to the rhythm it matched the soundtrack beat-for-beat. Every cut, every type animation, and every transition was timed to the music to make the spot feel as carbonated as the drink itself — a 23-second sugar rush that proves video, motion design, and brand storytelling work best when they move as one.
