The Vision: Observing Without Disturbing
Switzerland has a growing community of nature lovers, but no dedicated tool that lets them document sightings while also teaching respectful behaviour in the wild. WildScout closes that gap. Built around the figure of the scout — observer, learner, and steward — the app turns every walk in the forest into an opportunity to record, understand, and protect the species sharing the space.
The Experience: From Sighting to Understanding
The concept is anchored by four core features: an interactive map with offline downloads for areas with weak signal, a complete archive of Swiss wildlife with switchable card and compact views, an AI-powered scanner that identifies animals from photos or sound recordings, and a personal logbook with badges, favourites, and statistics. A custom icon set, a calm earth-tone palette, and four microanimations were developed to support an interface that stays quiet so the nature stays loud.

The Process: A Project from Scratch
WildScout was developed as my final apprenticeship project (IPA) over five weeks. The work spanned the full design process — user surveys, expert interviews with a hunter and a wildlife conservationist, competitor benchmarking, persona development, brand and naming exploration, an icon construction system, and user testing on a high-fidelity Figma prototype. A trademark conflict mid-project meant rebuilding the brand identity from the ground up, which turned into one of the most valuable lessons of the assignment: knowing when to commit to a new direction and execute it cleanly under deadline.
